simple sangria

I love sangria, but I have always been super intimidated by the thought of making it. A friend of mine shared her go-to recipe, which I made this weekend with a few variations. I am happy to report my first sangria was a huge success! It was simple to make and delicious!

I first had sangria in Barcelona when I study abroad for a summer in college. FSU has a London study program and it was an amazing experience. After the semester there, a friend and I traveled around for 2 weeks. We started in Barcelona, and it was so much fun we almost spent the entire two weeks there. (we were supposed to stay 3 days, we ended up staying 5) They eat dinner really late there and it is always a celebration. We loved dining Al Fresco, eating paella and drinking PITCHERS of amazing Sangria. Needless to say, after having what is likely the most legit sangria out there.. the thought of making it myself was a little intimidating. Fast forward 15 years and I finally make my first batch! 😉

simple sangria

Simple Sangria:

Bottle of Red (I used Centine Toscana from Banfi wines)
1/4 cup of Triple Sec (or Grand Marnier)
1 lemon
1 lime
1 orange
1 apple (I used red which was fine, but my friend told me I should have used a green apple, go figure)
2 tablespoons coconut sugar
1 can Grapefruit LaCroix (lemon or lime would work as well)

Instructions:
Juice half of the orange, and half of the lime.
Cut up the rest of the orange along with the apple into chunks or thin slices.
Put the juice, fruit, sugar, wine and triple sec into a pitcher
Stir and let it sit for at least 2 hours. (I made mine in the morning before work for a party we were having that night)
Right before serving, pour in the can of LaCroix (you can also use plain soda water, or to make it sweeter you can use Sprite)

banfi wines

I decided to finally try my hand at Sangria after getting a fabulous delivery from Banfi wines. It was packed full of amazing wines, wine guides, tasting journals, glasses and more. The wine I used in this recipe was delicious. They also sent me a sparkling red wine that I love and a organic Chardonnay that I am very excited to try. Thanks, Banfi!

So don’t let Sangria scare you, this easy recipe is sure to be a hit! Everyone who had this told me it was really good and I would have to agree!
